Science Experiment at Red Oak Hollow

Our compost bin is a "hot commodity" for a Sewanee
Scientist. She was thrilled to find in it, the right stage of larva,
that will grow into Black Solider flies.
They want to grow them my the thousands in a lab and are collecting
eggs that have been deposited in samples of variegated cardboard. (top left photo)

Eventually, the larva which is made of fat and protein will be
eaten by chickens.  The University is aspiring to be self sustaining
with their garden and chicken flock.

Take a week-end with nature this summer

Both are pretty in pink. Unless
you take the moment to notice; they
both will be gone soon.

Come enjoy the last weeks of summer
and see the cone-flowers in bloom and the
intriguing moths, like this pink and yellow one.

Which way to the ponds?

Take the stairs or take the trail, you will get there easily.
